Evander Holyfield was one of the athletes whose names appeared among the list of customers of a pharmacy that was busted for distributing performance-enhancing drugs. Now Holyfield admits to taking a drug from the pharmacy, but says it was for a "hormonal problem" and that he took it only briefly. And he says he never used steroids but was encouraged to do so in the 1980s and told Mike Tyson was doing it."Somebody high up in boxing mentioned to me that there was this other fighter who did steroids and I should too because it wasn't illegal in boxing yet," he said. "I said, 'I'm not going to do that. I ain't no cheater.' I was the undisputed cruiserweight champion and I was in the Olympics. If I started taking steroids, people would say, 'He cheated at everything.' But this guy told me, 'Well, [Mike] Tyson is doing it, you should, too. I said, 'I don't care if Tyson is doing it, I'm not.' "Holyfield said he is not accusing Tyson of taking steroids; he was just relating the story. He also declined to say who addressed the subject with him, adding, "The person is still in boxing. People sue people. I don't need to get into that.
As I've said before, I've always been a Holyfield fan, but I don't think there's much doubt that Holyfield used steroids. The human body just doesn't change in adulthood the way Holyfield's changed from the time he was a cruiserweight to the time he was a heavyweight. Tyson's body looks like that of a steroid user, too, although Tyson was a freak of nature as a teenager, not a guy who kept getting bigger like Holyfield or Barry Bonds. I think Max Kellerman is probably about right in his estimate of how many heavyweights are using steroids.

If Evander says he didn't use steroids, I believe him. He didn't get as big as Bonds did during their careeres. And if you follow boxing like I do, you can see his struggle against Riddick Bowe in their first fight. The fight was really close, and If Evander had of been on a steroid, do you think he would have lost? He's a weight lifter, and he trains hard, but people that "CAN'T" do what they do.... Hey ! He must be taking steroids. Especialy if your a black athalete.

What a cop out, I would have expected more class from him. What does he have to gain by throwing some one else under the bus and who really cares at this point if Tyson took roids. He's just trying to deflect attention away from himself.

I noticed how Holyfield changed in a very short period of time from cruiserweight to heavyweight and the amazing muscle development. Any one can look at pictures and note that this was not normal growth and heavy weightlifting would have shortened his motions, made him stiffer, slower, and tire more quickly. Open your eyes!!! He also should hang his gloves up while he can still speak. Any one of the present heavyweight champions could put him in the same type of state Ali is now, that the Quarry's were before they passed, and like Bobby Chacon. Know when to give it up!

In my opinion, The Real Deal was a user. He was training with former Mr. Olympia Lee Haney for a long time and he obviously used muscle enhancements. I don't think they were going to poetry readings together. And I think he used them hard when he beat Tyson the first time. He was in amazing shape with a certain density that he never displayed before. In addition, with the implication that came up with Holyfield using the pseudonym "Evan Fields" and him answering the phone when Mr. Fields was called is certainly quite damaging and implicating.

Most top heavyweights of the past 30 years have taken steroids and/or HGH at some point, as have most NFL linemen, most track and field power sportsmen, most competitive weightlifters, many baseball players, and virtually all bodybuilders and professional wrestlers.
I have said this for 15 years and have been lambasted on boards for pointing out the seemingly obvious.
Sorry folks, it is simply not natural for the average NFL lineman's weight to go up 50 pounds, from 260 to 310, in just one generation. Nor is it natural for someone to go from 185 at age 22 to 220 of solid muscle at age 30, as both Bonds and Holyfield have done.
I don't judge them for it, but hey, it's pretty obvious.

And, in other news, grass is green.
Come on, of course Tyson was using them at some point. I don't follow boxing much, but I can't see biting the man's ear to be anything but the result of a steroid rage. And I wouldn't be surprised if some of Tyson's other antisocial behvior is a direct result.
As for Evander, I don't know why he'd say this, as it's repeating something that just looks pretty sensible to most.

Ok, so Holyfield took steroids...the thing that bothers me the most about this story is that he claims to be a practicing christian...by cheating to win bigger fight purses he's basically stealing those purses from other boxers who really deserve them...AND why would he bring Tyson into this without any solid proof. He's obviously a classless cheater attempting to shift the spotlight off of himself and onto a man who at his peak would have destroyed him in the ring.

Sorry to bust the bubble of those saying that you cant gain 50 lbs over an 8 year period unless you use some type of Steriod or an inhancing drug. I gained about that from 30 to 37 years old. I didn't even take an asprin. You do the math. Just start eating a lot of calaries just before you go to bed and lay around during the day and do nothing and see what happens.

I really dont care whether or not holyfield or tyson or whoever uses or used steroids, just think of all the great, fantastic, exciting and emotional nights of amazing fight action that these athletes have delivered for us. if it takes a drug to provide that high level of entertainment to us, then so be it.I dont judge any man who wants to better themselves.

The Asterisk Party
We make no attempt to single out Barry Bonds. Barry just happens to be carrying the steroid banner presently. McGwire, Sosa, Bud Selig etc... all of them are guilty of drinking from the steroid trough. We do indeed protest the steroid era... and the efforts of Bud Selig. Like a good parent... we do not accept the he did it too excuse... the integrity of the game is at stake. We know the asterisk will never be applied but at least we fans will have said to the future fans ... we knew what was going on and we did not stand by and ignore it.
Our asterisk is simply an acknowledgment that we the fans were not ignorant to the truth. Future baseball fans will certainly look back on this time... the steroid era... and they will wonder why no one took a stand and called foul. So this year, we stand up for the past, to show the future, that the now matters. And we will make our stand... in the stands... at the ballpark... for all to see. Our little piece of foam does not attempt to deal with records or right a wrong. That would certainly be beyond the fans ability and would only add to a convoluted tangle of words and facts. This little foam asterisk simply allows the fans to demonstrate, in a peaceful simple way, that we were not blind. We were not fooled. And we did not stand by and look the other way while the integrity of the game was ground into the dirt.

If you dedicate 6 to 10 hours a day into a full scheduled daily workout program and have the right diet you can gain muscle mass, strength and definition. Roids simply speed up the process and makes it less work. It can be done the correct way, one simply has to make the right choice.
Obviuosly there are too many making the wrong choice because we (the fans) are accepting this buy buying into it all when we wear copies of thier uniforms, hats and shoes. Up and coming young atheletes see this great success and want it as quickly as possible so they resort to the easy way as well.
By the way all races partake in enhancement drugs ther just happen to be a story for us to respond to concerning two famous African American athelets. You knucklehead.

People do have fee choice. Sometimes those choices are wrong but nonetheless theycan choose.
The anabolic steroids these people use are veterinary drugs intended for horses with names like equidone and so forth.
Point being, there is not a single racehorse on any track that doesn't get shot up with this crap. These animals have no choices or say in what is done to them. Perhaps a good hard look at the horse racing industry might lead to some much needed reform.
Without the easy availability of these veterinary drugs perhaps it would lead to a decrease amongst humans as well.

I am willing to bet that Holyfield has used steroids. As a former college athelete that has tried steroids I know the effect. Tyson has always been a freak of nature and his body never changed dramatically over the course of his career while Holyfield made huge gains in a short period of time....shorter than you'd get from a solid diet and working out.
Oh and to the guy that claims Tyson's ear biting is a result of roid rage...you don't know crap. Tyson bit Holyfield's ear because he is simply a crazy bastid.

Excuse me. No offense to all the 'so called' experts on physical development related to exercise!
It is soo clearly obvious that nearly any individual can add significant muscle mass to their physique via weight training. Don't insult yourself by asking if a quadrapallegic or an older person can accomplish this. Obviously it would be difficult for a quadrapallegic to exercise! On the subject of older people exercising, don't kid yourselves. Older people can definetely add significant muscle mass via exercise. If Hollyfield added 20 or even 30 pounds of muscle in even a period as little as 6 months, this would be of no suprise to individuals who are actually informed and experienced in terms of exercise. By that I mean, exercise without the recovery aid of steroids or growth hormones. Now the U.S. government is claiming that pro hormones which are clearly 'not' steroids are steroids. And this is according to their political spin experts.
Hollyfield could have easily added 20 or 30 pounds of muscle to his physique naturally within a 6 month period without the use of any sort of supplementation whatsoever! Those of you who are not into exercise and who are not bodybuilders would not know this offhand because you are not into exercise and because you are not bodybuilders. Even some individuals who are very much into exercise and are bodybuilders(Atually, anyone who intentially changes the dimensions of their physique through exercise is a bodybuilder!) may not be aware of this because they may be training in their basement, garage, or a local health club where no-one trains intensely with moderate to heavy weights. What's next? Will bodybuilding be literally banned? Or will intense bodybuilding with heavy weights be banned? Wake up! This is a slippery slope entirely motivated for political gain. And that much is obvious to people who know the 'actual' facts about exercise and bodybuilding! What is more, is that whether or not someone is on steroids is entirely their own business and 'no-one' elses that they have not freely shared such information with. And even then, if someone for whatever reason told a police officer or a government official that they were on steriods, said police officer or government official have no right whatsoever to rain in any sort of negativety including disclosing such information with anyone outside of those who said individual have freely appoved of. What I am refering to is human rights.
Anyone as a human being has the right to do whatever they want to their 'own' body and not be prosecuted, ridiculed, sold out, or negatively impacted based on whichever activity via 'someone elses' actions.
And what's more is that if someone for whatever reason, direct or indirect, 'appears' to be using steroids, this is entirely their own affair as in their own business. And their rights must be respected! Several generations of my family have included bodybuilders, and my grandfather, father, uncle, along with various other members of my family have all told me as a small child that I can add a lot of muscle to my body through exercise. I have known what bodybuilding was or is since I was about 4 years old. That period of my life is the earliest period that I have concrete memories of the knowledge of what bodybuilding is. I am now 30 years old and have happily and freely been a bodybuilder in some capacity for 26 years.
I am now worried for my own safety that someone will try to or outrightly hurt me in some fashion because I am a bodybuilder. I have been outrightly accused of taking steriods, even by other bodybuilders to the point of argument and harrassment. All while 'never' having taken steroids! Will ordinary people or the U.S. government(in any capacity) come after me and hurt me because I am a bodybuilder and may use supplement A or supplement B? The thought of this very real possibility alone makes me sick, worried and nervous. What is being done to people who live in 'so called' free countries especially the U.S., who use steroids is sickening, disturbing, and morrose! Where has our freedom as human beings much less Americans gone to? Do any of us still remember that the founding fathers of America wrote documents called the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights which guarantee our freedom and privacy?
Why are our founding fathers, the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, and our freedom as Americans being preverbially spat upon and actively destroyed by the U.S. government and even ordinary people?
The answer to the afformentioned question is simply this: They all have something to gain! Whether it's more votes, political clout, longer tenure in office, fame, power, or money(for politicians), or a quick boost in self esteem, credit with others, or simple fun(for ordinary citizens), individuals who use steroids and even those who don't are suffering from the grave insult to our founding fathers, the willfull and deliberate destruction of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, and the obvious 'violation' of our own human rights(individual or otherwise). I am hurt by how people are being treated in the U.S. and am very seriously considering leaving the U.S. for another country where my freedom and rights may 'actually' be respected!
