The planned Oct. 13 heavyweight unification bout between Sultan Ibragimov and Ruslan Chagaev has been canceled, and Evander Holyfield will fight Ibragimov that night instead. That means the fight will get a lot more mainstream media attention in the United States, but it will have a lot less cachet as far as fight fans are concerned. A fight between Ibragimov and Chagaev would have unified the WBA and WBO belts and featured two boxers widely considered among the top heavyweights in the world.
Holyfield has won his last four fights, but he'll turn 45 less than a week after he fights Ibragimov, and he's a far cry from the fighter he was in his 20s and 30s. If boxing were a meritocracy, Holyfield wouldn't get a title shot. The good news is that Ibragimov should make short work of Holyfield, and that might convince him to retire.

unbelievable...some people dont appreciate good health. Evander walk away while you still have good health. you have nothing to prove.
If this is for the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World, I care to dispute it.
We shall see if Evander Holyfield will be beaten up quickly or he will pull off a Rocky Balboa performance like in Rocky IV. Age is just a number in Evander's book of boxing.
If I can change, you can change...
There is a god. I watched enough of the Savarese fight to know this Russian is in big trouble. I just hope the russians don't slip him some plutonium in his spit water. Just think how cool it will be to watch history as Holyfield TKO's this bum in nine. Heavyweight champ in red square.
evander is still fighting? I wonder how his ears taste
Please. Ibragimovs' only impresive win was against Whitaker. Otherwise he has drawed with Ray Austin, beat up fat, has-been Javier Mora, and won the title from Briggs when he had pneumonia, and was complicated by asthma medicine and threw no punches.
Ibragimov had proved very little. When he steps in the ring with the living legend, he steps into the ring with a better fighter than Ray Austin, and a man who on pure heart and determination will again have gold around his waist.
