When it comes to Michael Vick, boxer Roy Jones takes the Stephon Marbury approach.
On an ESPN Radio interview this morning, Jones reiterated his previous comments that he doesn't see what the big deal is with Vick, the Falcons quarterback who will plead guilty next week to federal conspiracy charges related to the dog fighting ring he operated.
"I don't understand why they're making it such a big issue," Jones said. "Do you have to take it that far? ... He ain't murdered nobody. ... Let's move on."
Jones has made similar comments in the past about how he doesn't get why people are so upset about what Vick did. But if he doesn't think what Vick did is wrong, is he lobbying his Congressman to repeal the laws Vick violated? And if Jones thinks Vick did nothing wrong, does he therefore think Vick was lying when he released a statement, through his lawyer, in which he said he was sorry? If Vick did nothing wrong, he has nothing to be sorry for, and he's therefore a liar and a hypocrite for allowing his lawyer to release an apology under his name.
Jones also said, "I'd really hate to see his whole career get ruined over a mistake he made."
I hate to see his career get ruined, too, but I wouldn't call what Vick has done "a mistake." I'd call it devoting a large portion of his adult life to financing an illegal enterprise. The Virginia property where the pit bulls from the Bad Newz Kennels dog fighting ring were housed was one of the first big purchases Vick made after he got his first big professional paycheck. For as long as Vick has been a professional athlete, he's devoted the money he earned to financing a criminal operation. As King Kaufman wrote at Salon.com, what Vick did wasn't a mistake. It was a way of life.

How can you ask people to forgive Michael Vick? He killed Dogs they cant run away like people or tell that they are being abused. He broke the law and should be punished just like anyone else.I would love to see how many people are in prison and for how long for the same charges. We need to send a message that playing professional sports is a privlage not a right. I couldnt get a job at a gas station beacuse as a result from a background check I had an open container charge 7 years ago that isnt even a feloney nor was it a million dollor a year job so if I cant work in what i love then why should he ??

Yes, it was a way of life for Vick. A double life of deceptions, numerous. Cruelty to this breed that is already been severely discriminated against, will not be tolerated. Put him on a field and there will be such an uproar. He's finished. Take assest from his illegal activities. Donate them to build shelters, rescues, and an educational program. We do not want Vick back. Pure evil!

Vicks addiction to gambling on a blood thirsty endeavor won't stop. He must be stopped. People like this, have a passion for it. He must never play NFL again. Or we'd like a complete investigation into who else in NFL is connnected to wager ing like 10, 20, thousand dollars.

And we wonder why there is such a problem in this country with Pit Bulls. Michael Vick. Is the contibuting factor. Big Time. With big money, and no brains. A blood thirsty vilan. Get rid of him. We never want to see him on a field or ah, he won't run fast enough to elude the folks chasing him down. We are livid. Over this. And not forgiving.

He will not change. I know that. The real human beings know this. Research has proven it. Zero tolerance. 1 strike. He had his chance now remove him from our society at large, for he will never do good. He only knows bad. And evil. Money was a weapon of destruction in his blood stained hands. NFL what is wrong with you? With that I question, is there a cover up in the making, for the others involved? There are more, and they have huge sums of "cash" to gamble. Who are they? Are there more NFL players involved in this, ah secret society of Vicks.

Let me start by saying I am a 47 year old Caucasian man. I feel we do need to move on. I am not defending Mr. Vick, but until we as a society start to pay attention to many animals we torture/kill on a daily basis and much of it legal, such as trophy hunters, we shouldn't be spending so much time and energy on Mr. Vick. Let all of the people that are standing up for the innocent dogs of the world, stand up for all of the other innocent animals/fish everywhere. Don't get me wrong, if you feed your family or use your kill for clothing that is perfectly fine, but some just do it for the SPORT of it. Because an animal is a domesticated pet, that doesn't elevate it's status to higher life form. We need to pay more attention to all of the animals of the world we abuse on a daily basis, and don't think twice about it.

Why not organize a fight between Vick, Marbury and Roy Jones. They seem to think it's a good sport. Let them tear each others to pieces. And the fate for the poor performer...well...

I completely get where Roy Jones is coming from on this one. While it may be sociopathic to enjoy watching animals maul one another, these are vicious, despicable animals in question. Not only should all pit bulls be put to sleep, all people who own pit bulls and who make the claim that they are really "good-natured animals that only become vicious when bred to be vicious," should also be put to sleep. Good riddance to all pit bulls and all pit bull owners. This case of pit bull fighting never should have materialized because these animals should have been sent into extinction hundreds of years ago.
By the way, all dogs are disgusting. Anyone who lets a dog live in their home sickens me. You dogowners are vile, smelly, bacteria-coated vermin.
Have a nice day!

I have a comment for any of the other ignorant morons that can actually sit there and say its no big deal, they should not be in the public eye as role models. I am sorry but thats just totally ridiculous, how these other athletes are basically downgrading it, or how the one ignorant idiot said dogfighting is a sport. I think the NFL/other sports associations should be more picky on what kind of people they hire and check into moral character besides just talent. There are many talented people in sports and other areas, but there are also other people to replace them if they cannot act like human beings. I also agree with another comment posted here that people need to wake up to see all the ways animals are hurt/abused (not just dogfighting). Whether its through hunting thats supposedly a sport, or through uneccessary animals testing on products such as cosmetics. People have to get motivated to support change and make a difference where the Michael Vick incident will only eventually fade away.

When your friends sell you out and your not the first to cop a plea with the feds most of the time you have to cop a plea regardless or you will pay dearly. I really hope yall react to someone killing a human being and go out there protest and make sure they go to jail. Oops I forgot its not a dog so maybe people like Ray Lewis and other people who have murdered can probably get away with it because yor to busy fighting another cause.

Very very wrong what Vick did he took poor helpless dogs and trained them to fight. He should be put in jail and suspended from the NFL for the rest of his life for someone to have so much and not be satisfied is just wrong. This business of him making a mistake is a bunch of you know what,he knew just what he was doing and though he was above the law.

There is no question that Roy Jones is over the hill boxing wise but also brain wise--maybe from taking too many shots to the head. Of course, he has been known to raise fighting breeds of animals. Man, these clowns have the worst attitude and disregard for life that I could ever imagine. What role models for serial killers, the majority of who have histories of animal abuse before beginning their reigns of terror.
Also to the individuals who automatically believe that pit bulls are born as hating and fighting animals, you are grossly incorrect. The pit bull, Staffordshire Terrier, whatever, is TRAINED by humans to be the way they are. They are prodded, enticed and brought up to fight. While they may be occasions that some might harm individuals and other animals there are also times when Akita, Rotties, Dobies, Shepherds, Labs, on and on, have been known to do so. BUT these dogs were chosen by MAN to do his dirty work and bidding. Many years ago it was the British Bulldog who fought and look at the breed now. As docile as can be.

WILLIAM BENJAMIN, don't get it twisted. If you are feeding your family with that kill, it's fine. The problem is with the folks that will just hang that deer's head on their wall, and eat something else for dinner.

Yes, the comments regarding Ted are fairly much right on. Moron is putting it kindly. I doubt if anything would enter his domain. Probably an abuser and most likely more than just animals.

There are multiple stores with varied intents regarding the Michael Vick situation. And depending on the beliefs and convictions of all parties tuned in to this story; everyone has varied opinions that run deep with emotions and at an all time high when it comes to being disgusted.
Some feel what Michael Vick is totally despicable and some are of the opinion he should be hanged.
Others don't see Vick in such a bad light and feel what he did does not rise to the level of great harm.
There are so-called animal lovers weighing in.
But I just read there are 53 pit bulls that were taken from Vick's property during a raid. Unless these pit bulls are claimed or adopted, they will be put down.
Could someone tell me where are the true american dog lovers?
Why haven't they stood up for these animals since they despise what Vick did?
Could it be they don't love dogs as much as they profess? Or could it be they wouldn't dare take dogs that a certain person once owned?
For balance sake, would there be such an uproar if Tom Brady, Payton Manning or Brett Favre were involved with this?
Michael Vick did not invent dog fighting no more than Pete Rose originated gambling.
I heard someone call in on a national sports show and say; "you can't be an animal lover and then defend Michael Vick."
I'm wondering, can one be a solid human being and value the life of an animal over Michael Vick?
It makes no sense to me for a guy who was due to earn 6 million dollar this season would waste his time on something as foolish as dog fighting.
Should something be done about it? Yes.
Should he be tarred and feathered? No.

Roy Jones doesn't think what Vick did wasn't wrong he just thinks we are going overboard.
Ray Lewis was linked to a murder and and pleaded out to a lessor charge and continued to play.
Leaonard Little drove drunk and killed two people and continued to play.
Kobe paid off a possible rape victim and missed no games.
Rick Tocchet ran a gambing ring for 5 years that took in bets in excess of 2 million dollars. He is getting no jail time, no RICO charges, no fines and can serve his probation with his family.
"Lindsay Lohan story"
They will NOT file felony charges against Lindsay Lohan in connection with her two DUI arrests.
We're told charges may be filed, and the D.A. is leaning toward rejecting three possible felonies. Sources say the D.A. almost certainly will not file cocaine charges in connection with her DUI bust Memorial Day weekend in Beverly Hills.
As for her July 24 arrest in Santa Monica, the D.A. could charge her with felony cocaine possession, and bringing cocaine into a correctional facility -- also a felony. But we're told that the D.A. is inclined not to file those felony charges either.
That basically leaves misdemeanor DUI charges for both incidents. If Lohan is found guilty of both, she'd have to serve a minimum of four days in jail.
There are 5 reasons why people are going overboard on Vick.
1) The Love people have for dogs
2) Racism and jealousy(There is a strong hate and jealosy about all the money black athletes are making)
3)ESPN (with so many stations and a need to run stories over and over to fill all the programming time)
4) He hasn't said he is sorry.
5) He is a huge star.
But none of these means he deserves the hate he is getting.
