UPDATE: Five months later, I admit I'm wrong.
Boxing, more than any other sport, has been fodder for some of the great American films, from Requiem for a Heavyweight to Rocky to Raging Bull to Million Dollar Baby. This, I'd wager, will not be one of the great American films:
That was the trailer for The Hammer, the new boxing movie starring Adam Carolla. I like Carolla, but I agree with Sports by Brooks that he's at his best when he's working with a partner, be it Jimmy Kimmel or Dr. Drew Pinsky. As the star in a film, well, it doesn't look promising.
Still, it is a boxing movie, and Carolla knows boxing, and he's funny when he's talking about boxing in an interview with Todd Behrendt at Fox Sports. I'd love to see one of the cable channels that broadcasts boxing hire Carolla to serve as a commentator. I just don't feel the need to see him as a leading man.

You really should watch the movie before you pan it. I agree the trailer doesn't do it justice but I have seen the entire movie and it really is great. you shouldn't expect a romping 'laugh a minute' experience of Old School for example. It is more similar to Howard Stern's Private Parts, in that, there is guy humor, sweet moments, a story line that you actually care about rather than just waiting for the next joke to happen and boxing scenes that look real.
Definitely worth your box office money, unlike some of the recent Will Ferrell movies... This one leave you with your expectations exceeded rather than let down that it didn't live up to the hype.

This movie will become a cult classic, just wait and see. It has a very well-written story, good acting, is very funny, and has a heart. You'll see....you'll all see.

Always trust a review from someone who hasn't seen what he's reviewing.

What kind of pseudo-journalistic crap is AOL putting on here!?! He didn't even see the movie? And this from a guy who claims to "like Adam Carolla".
Just wait to see the movie before panning it.
I'm not sure what company is behind this film, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was a competitor of Time Warner.

What's the point of even wasting bandwidth by posting a 'review' of a movie that the columnist hasn't even seen? What kind of 'journalist' even does that?
Here's my review: I think Michael David Smith's next article is not going to be worth reading; therefore I will not read it and urge others to do the same.
