Joel Casamayor is the true champion of boxing's lightweight division, recognized as the title holder by Ring Magazine, even though he doesn't own the belts of any of boxing's four major sanctioning bodies. But he's a champion not many people believe in. As he prepares to fight Juan Manuel Marquez Saturday night in one of the biggest fights of the year, Casamayor is going into the fight a heavy underdog. These are the odds at Bodog:
Juan Manuel Marquez: -325
Joel Casamayor: +250
You don't often see a generally recognized champion like Casamayor head into a fight as a huge underdog like that, but in this case I think it's warranted. Marquez, moving up to 135 pounds after fighting for years at 125 or 130, is a faster, more skilled boxer than Casamayor, and I'll be surprised if he doesn't come away from the fight as the new lightweight champ.

If Marquez is to win, he's gonna have to outwork Joel, who doesn't throw many punches.. But he will have enough chances to counterpunch with Marquez... Marquez has shown to be competitive and even win at the next level, but he's also shown that his chin is prone at that level.. His 2 fights with Pacman and his fight with Barrera, he's been dropped and in 2 instances, it cost him the fight... Against MAB, it nearly costed him... Joel, at this age, still has good technique and sneaky power.. He's not a guy u think of in that division when it comes to power punching... But he has good power, and i think he does enough to win this fight...

The ONLY reason Marquez is moving up to lightweight, Is his hopes of getting a third shot at Pacquiao. Manny is much stronger at lightweight, And hasn't lost his speed. I hope Marquez does win this fight with Casamayor so Manny can finally shut this crybaby up.
