World light heavyweight champion Joe Calzaghe defeated Roy Jones Jr. by unanimous decision tonight at Madison Square Garden in the signature performance of Calzaghe's career -- and possibly the last fight for both boxers.
Jones knocked Calzaghe down in the first round and looked like the Jones of old for about the first five minutes. But in the third round Calzaghe finally found his hand speed again, and for the rest of the fight he simply dominated. By midway through the fight he had opened an ugly gash over Jones' left eye, and for the rest of the fight Jones' face was a bloody mess. It was a one-sided fight; Calzaghe destroyed Jones.
Calzaghe is widely considered one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world, and nothing that happened tonight could change that. The 39-year-old Jones was was considered the best boxer in the world for several years but is now well past his prime. That was never more clear than tonight.
FanHouse live blogged the fight and gave it to Calzaghe, 117-110. All three judges scored it 118-109.
Calzaghe said after the fight that he would consider retiring, but that he hasn't made up his mind for sure. If he's done, Calzaghe will retire with a record to 46-0. Jones also said that retiring is possible. If he's finished, Jones now has a record of 52-5.

Talk about cream-puff punches. Calzaghe has no punch at all. He flails away with arm punches. If Hopkins trains hard and is agressive, he can beat Calazage easily. I would like to see a Hopkins and Calzaghe rematch. Jones is a great fighter who fought too many fight and is better offf to retire. Considering his age, Hopkins is the best pound for pound fighter out there.

your right, If,Hopkins fought calzaghe the way he fought pavlic, theres a good chance he could hve won that fight. But, When holding, punching, holding are your idea of a fight, you deserve to lose

Joe C. has been knocked down in the first round, in 2 consecutive fights by 2 fighters now who are themselves well past their prime, great fighters though they remain..
He is, and has been a superb boxer, but time is effecting his reflexes now too.
Retire now Joe, undefeated, and on top!

Calzaghe would be a great fighter if he had a punch. Calzaghe is a great arm puncher, but has no real power.

Roy Jones to me was never a great fighter to begin with. He alluded punches with his quickness and that meant he never really developed sound defense. When he got older reflexes are just not there. a younger hungrier Jones would never have lost to a Tarver or Joe C. Roy now has to have sound boxing skills and he just does not have them. I do not understand why some great athletes cannot quit while they are on top and before they become and embarrasment to themselves.

Never a great fighter??? Are you a boxing fan? Do you have any respect for the sport? Pick up another sport to watch "Vince" ! Roy Jones WAS one of the greatest ever!! No doubt hall of famer!!! he is not even close to what he used to be no argument there. There is just nobody else for Calzaghe to fight. Nobody cares about these other guys. Atleast Roy still brings a fan base. Which brings money. Thats why boxing threw the money at him. What is he supposed to do? Guys like you that say stupid Sh!t like that i question your knowledge. Go to youtube "Vince" and sit back and watch Roy in his prime...nobody could beat him then....and who would beat him now? but wait a minut he was never a great fighter right?lol

Apologies Vince but you really don't understand boxing at all. don't be fooled by what you are watching recently on tv. If you study the art of boxing you will then appreciate the skills which Roy Jones has and still has to a degree. I have been an amature boxer since the age of 12 and i am now 28, i would say that is long enough to have a great understanding and love for the sport.

No one should begrudge these two great warriors, they deserve a decent final pay day, for their contribution to boxing over the years, wish them well in their retirement.

Nice comments by most...Dont agree with Vince because pound for pound, Jones was the best in his heyday...I dont think Calzaghe would of beat R. Jones when he was champ. Good luck Roy and nice try.
