As trainer Freddie Roach prepares Manny Pacquiao to fight Oscar De La Hoya, he says his own experience with De La Hoya -- whom he trained in last year's fight with Floyd Mayweather -- will provide him with a blueprint for Pacquiao to win."I know Oscar pretty well," Roach said on HBO's De La Hoya/Pacquiao 24/7. "I know his strengths, I know his weaknesses. ... There's a reason why he lost control of that fight [against Mayweather], and I know the reason. I'm not going to tell you, but you'll see it in the fight, I promise."
So can Roach teach Pacquiao how to make De La Hoya lose control again?
Roach's experience with De La Hoya certainly seems like it would provide Pacquiao with a strategic advantage when they fight on December 6, but De La Hoya says that in reality, Roach showed when he trained De La Hoya that he doesn't understand De La Hoya's strengths and weaknesses.
"He trained me for Mayweather Jr.," De La Hoya said. "And everybody saw that fight -- it was the wrong game plan. If he thinks he knows me, he's got another thing coming."
