The 41-year-old former heavyweight champion of the world Riddick Bowe was back in the ring on Saturday. Here's the best video I could find of his unanimous decision win over Gene Pukall:
Bowe weighed in at 271 pounds, or 36 more than he weighed in 1992 when he beat Evander Holyfield to become the heavyweight champ. It was his first fight since 2005 and just his third since 1996.
Bowe's record is 43-1; all these years later the only loss on his record is his rematch with Holyfield in 1993. If you're wondering how much of a tomato can Pukall is, well, his record fell to 14-3-2.
So does this mean Bowe is making a comeback? Sadly, I fear that it does. I expect to see Bowe in the ring again in 2009. Oh, and Holyfield isn't done either: He fights Nikolay Valuev for the WBA heavyweight belt on Saturday.
