The great boxing trainer Freddie Roach made strong comments Wednesday about the controversy surrounding boxer Antonio Margarito, who is accused of attempting to sneak plaster into his hand wraps before he fought Shane Mosley on January 24.On The Brian Kenny Show on ESPN Radio, host Brian Kenny asked Roach what should happen to Margarito and his trainer, Javier Capetillo, if they're found to have attempted to use plaster to make Margarito's fists into hardened casts. Roach didn't hold back in his answer.
"They should be banned from boxing for life," Roach said. "We don't need those types of people in boxing."
Margarito and Capetillo are temporarily suspended while the California State Athletic Commission investigates the case, which began when Mosley's camp complained about Margarito's hand wraps prior to their fight. Mosley ended up dominating Margarito in a major upset, which has boxing observers wondering whether cheating has propelled the hard-hitting Margarito for his entire boxing career.
Roach also spoke to Kenny about his star pupil Manny Pacquiao, the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world. Roach said he expects Pacquiao's next opponent, Ricky Hatton, to give him a tough, exciting fight, and that if Pacquiao beats Hatton, Mosley would be a likely future opponent for Pacquiao. Pacquiao was the fighter of the year in 2008; impressive wins over Hatton and Mosley could make him the fighter of the year in 2009 as well.

I watched the fight and saw that Margarito was able to land solid punches that caught Mosley a few times. Mosley admitted to this in the post-fight interview. Now what could have happened if there was no discovery and Margarito was wearing "casts" inside his gloves when those punches landed? The results could have been the other way round. And Mostley, at 37, could have suffered irreparable injuries.

If Margarito should be suspended for life as Raoch suggests then Mosley should too for useing steroids.I think Roach is afraid of a Manny/Margarito fight.But a Steroidless Mosley/Manny fight would be great and I think Mosley would come out on top

I beleived that Antonio Margarito has been using the same tricks from the beginning of his carreer, and therefore just right to be banned for life in boxing. He messed up Miguel Cotto's face, without the same substance he tried to use on Mosley, Margarito would had lost that fight.ANTONIO MARGARITO SHOULD BE BANNED FOR LIFE IN BOXING FOR CHEATING.

I agree it taints everything and he will be looked at on an angle forever. He has a six loss record, we all should have been suspecting something when he dominated Cotto true boxing fans that is. There is a way and there are rules as to how a fighters hands should be wrapped. Margarito and his people blew it, apparently have no integrity and are cheaters of the crudest form. Mosley was no underdog either. I was certain that he would win this fight and I think Margarito knew he was outmatched,

I think Margarito cheated against Cotto. The damages that Cotto received couldn't have been done by Margarito's fists alone. There should be a rematch to remove any doubts. And what about the guy who was suppose to watch Margarito getting his hands wrapped up? If it's proven that Margarito cheated in his fights, not only should he be banned for life but should also have his record changed.

If margarito used plaster like substance with mosley, then there is no doubt that he used it with Kermit Cintron and Miguel Cotto. I mean come on Cotto can beat this guy any day if he's not cheating, he lasted 11 rounds with him having concrete hands. Think about it he broke Cotto's nose in the 2nd round with those cheat gloves, which meant Cotto could not breath right, then he brutalized his body with those same gloves. You have to give Miguel Cotto credit for lasting that long, he could not breath, he was swallowing blood, and he was killing his body.
