The California State Athletic Commission has taken swift action against boxer Antonio Margarito, stripping him of his license after he was found to have an illegal substance in his hand wraps before his fight with Shane Mosley last month.Margarito's trainer, Javier Capetillo, has also had his license revoked. Both can apply to have their licenses reinstated a year from now.
The other states' boxing commissions will honor California's suspension. Margarito, who was born in the United States but lives in Mexico, might be able fight in another country this year -- but if he did that he would likely be banned for life in the United States.
When Margarito's hand wraps were examined prior to the Mosley fight, they were found to have a cast-like substance in them that would harden when wet. In the hearing before the California Commission, Capetillo claimed he inserted the substance into Margarito's hand wraps accidentally:
"I committed a big mistake," Capetillo said. "I don't want this young man [Margarito] to have problems. I'm here to cover any responsibility. I take full responsibility. I committed this innocent mistake."But the Commission didn't buy it, and now both men have been kicked out of boxing.

What a joke, a lifetime ban with millions in fines would still be insufficient for what we have here.

The punishment is befitting the crime...This incident would be FAR more horrendous if the wraps had not been discovered and replaced before the fight and Shane Mosley had been hurt (Margarito's punches would/could have had far more devastating effect) I don't see any way Antonio wouldn't have known. I saw the fight, and Mosley completely dominated Margarito. If Margarito's loaded gloves hadn't been discovered, not only could MOsley have lost, he could have been seriously hurt. This isn't like an accidental low blow, a head butt or rabbit punching. This was deliberate and the bum should be banned from the ring for life!

they should forfiet al his winnings, and erase the losts had by his previous contenders. Looking back to his last 3 fights his fists were obviously loaded. I am sure he has done this before. You just dont cheat once. He got caught this time.

Antonio Margarito and his complicit handlers are getting off easy. Who knows how many times this stunt has been pulled including his most recent wins. He and his goons should be banned for life, The Cotto fight should be analyzed again and possbly rendered a no-decision. Mosely should remain champion while a round robin is begun to establish a finalist contenter to fight him for universal and undisputed recognition. Heavy fines should be applied to whom ever had knowledge of any shennanigans regarding Margarito.

Isn't this the way Jack Dempsey beat Jess Wiilard in 1919 ? Story is that Dempsey's trainer had a $ 100,000 bet that Jack would knock out Willard in the First Round, and then loaded Jack's gloves with Plaster . Dempsey gave Willard a frightful beating but the trainer lost his bet.

Of course. Coto is superior to Margofaget. He beat the guys ass for like 5 rounds and then shut down. Hmmm.... totally outclassing someone and then being unable to fight later in the fight. Fuxking refs and commissions and judges are shiit in boxing and MMA.
