As we watched video of Manny Pacquiao flooring Ricky Hatton with a vicious left hook, it seemed almost surreal. After all, this fight was hyped for so long, to see it end before the third round was not what anyone expected. But there was Hatton, being taken by complete surprise when Manny whipped the left around to knock him senseless. If you missed the punch or just want to watch it five more times like I did, his second-round knockout is after the jump.

Flagell>>>> comparing boxing to MMA is like comparing golf to hockey. Boxing is more disciplined; an art. MMA is just kicking ass. Boxing does not suck, but you do.

well yeah boxing is a good sport but it is past its time. it failed to evolve with the target market. people wanted more than just 15 rounds of jabs. boxing is very disciplined but so is mma. and its not comparing two different sports its comparing two combat sports. mma is eating boxing alive. this was the biggest ppv event in a long time, and it doesn't even top any mma events. mma doubled the ppv orders than this fight. this also includes oscar and floyd jr. mma has doubled that fight as well. sorry but boxing is on its way out.

the reason why mma is drawing the larger audience is because it is more mainstream and that's okay because boxing doesn't pretend to want to be mainstream. Think of mma as Britney Spears and Alicia Keys as boxing, hands down Alicia Keys is way more musically gifted. Compare mma with wrestling and you'll have a more close comparison like apples to crab apples.

no i don't see it like that either. can you really tell me that boxing is the same as it was back then. nothing has changed between when it started and where it is now. that is why boxing is fading less ppv orders, less exposure on regular tv, espn is even cutting its boxing division in half and creating new mma analyst jobs. and if you read my comment below this one i have other reasons why mma will eventually take out boxing

naw it was just the biggest ppv since pacman-de la hoya and mayweather-hatton before that...the story that boxing is a dieing sport is an urban myth its still alive and kicking even though mma is a rising sport it still is not at the level of boxing just look at the ppv figures which show that boxing has about as many views and more revenue for about half as many fights and pac-man v. mayweather is going to drastically refute that claim

^^nah buddy, if you check the figures you will clearly see that this fight as well as the de la hoya fight is topped by 5 other UFC fights last year when the de la hoya fought mayweather jr. Don't get me wrong I like boxing and MMA but I have to state the obvious, boxing is fading slowly but surely. UFC has big fights every month and boxing has them maybe twice a year that is why its fading.
I am a sports fan and I watched a bunch of boxing back in the day but nothing has changed from boxing in the 70's and 80's and 90's to now. Its a sad truth because I use to love boxing, now I like both with MMA a lil higher

kwilbur10, If you like mma so much then what are you doing in a boxing blogsite? Boxing is a real sport, mma to me is an artificial sport. It's a matter of preference. If you enjoy watching two grown sweaty men, half-naked rolling on the floor trying to grab each others genitals, if that is your thing, that is fine with us.

i am on this site because i am a sports fan. why is everyone getting on me i was just simply telling you guys that mma is making more money and the two sports are one in the same. you will see how technical the fighters are when arlovski and tim sylvia wins their respective boxing debuts. and it will be the end of this sport. i like boxing too don't get me wrong but you guys know just like i do that mma is pretty much dominating boxing whether it being ppv or otherwise. really artificial sport you like watching ppl play tag with jabs. and clearly ppl fighting past their time (ie hatton, oscar to name a few current ones). so plz don't hate on me i like boxing as well just not as much as mma.
another thing why do you think ppl are starting to put together mma fights as well as boxing under a banner. so there is your proof that mma is making their way to your living rooms for the die hard boxing fans.

better ratings or "more bang for your buck" is not the equation in determining which is the better sport.

that's 2x now that Hatton's chin has been exposed to 2 much faster-disciplined opponents.. both mayweather and pacquiao snapped his head, hes 2 slow to fight these guys. hatton was just chew toy for two of the best boxers all time. highlight knockouts

I think Mayweather Sr. should be the one to retire. That guy didn't prepare any game-plan...other than boasting about being the best trainer in the world. He did Hatton a huge dis-service - and hopefully we've seen the last of his ridiculous, unintelligible rants.

Id rather spend money on ppv and have it be over in two rounds than see an elusive boxer make it go twelve and 3 fat old men give you there opinion on who won!!

I still dont know why Hatton got to fight Pacman. I thought it would be a third round knockout. Mayweather vs Pacquiao, Pacman wins, the fight dont go past six. Once Mayweather slows down from running its over.

You can say all you want how Manny wont win. Just pray he dont kill your fighter like he almost did Hatton. Also forget about his 7 World Titles that only Delahoya ever achieve and he pummeled him like he was a rag doll. Forget about the last 3 fights he didnt even get even a scratch on his face all against champions. Dont forget also all his training partners are undefeated fighters and world champions that he just KO's regularly. Yea he is a good fighter but then your fighter must be a Ok fighter or in Hatton's case a sucky fighter!!! Hehehehe Speed, Accuracy, Defense Kills!!!!!! Long Live Pound for Pound King!!!!!
And believe me any fighter fights Manny he will hit them over 50% of the time. Dont forget He throws over a 1000 in 12 rounds. So prepare your face & body for a beating!!!! Everybody get hit by Manny EVERYBODY. When he goes up in weight he only gets stronger. Muscle weighs more and his opponents get SLOWER!!!! Hatton couldnt even hit him 10% of the time. Only fighter I saw KO someone and same time feint a punch!!! THATS BLINDING SPEED BABY!!!!! Floyd is stupid to pick Marquez. He might not get passed him and then you'll see Pac vs Marques 3.

taking nothing away from Manny, he has never faced anyone with speed (hand and foot) or elusiveness as Mayweather . nor has he facwd anyone with the fortitude to stick to his game plan and not get discouraged when it doesn't pan out immediately . styles make fights . don't stand in front of Manny . Floyd won't . I believe when you see the Mayweather/Marquez fight, you will see what I'm talking about .
