The upcoming heavyweight title fight between Wladimir Klitschko and Ruslan Chagaev will have an American television home, as ESPN Classic has decided to show the fight live from Germany on Saturday afternoon, June 20.
Dan Rafael of ESPN.com reports that after HBO passed, ESPN Classic decided to pick up the fight. So it will, in fact, be availble to American boxing fans who want to watch it live. That's the good news.
The bad news is that the heavyweight division in boxing has fallen to the point where Klitschko vs. Chagaev is a title fight that very, very few fans care about. Even though the fight is an ESPN property, I'd be shocked if it gets any more than passing reference on SportsCenter. The heavyweight division is in desperate need of a shot in the arm, and Klitschko vs. Chagaev is not the fight to do it.
