Floyd Mayweather Jr. has announced that he suffered a rib injury in training camp and will postpone his highly anticipated July 18 comeback fight against Juan Manuel Marquez."I am extremely disappointed that this fight has to be postponed," Mayweather said in a statement released by Golden Boy Promotions. "I was training very hard and looking forward to getting back in the ring on July 18th."
Both Mayweather and Marquez indicated that they expect to reschedule the fight as soon as Mayweather is healthy enough to resume training. No timeframe has been set.
"I was very disappointed to hear the news about the fight being postponed," Marquez said. "I will remain focused, in shape and ready to fight whenever the fight is rescheduled for."
In addition to delaying the Mayweather-Marquez fight, the injury represents another hurdle in the way of a fight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao is the fight every boxing fan desperately wants to see, but with Mayweather now out indefinitely, Pacquiao will likely schedule another fight in the mean time. Boxing fans who want to see the two best fighters in the world square off will have to wait until at least 2010.

Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto would probably be the best fight for Manny right now, or maybe Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley. Then assuming if he wins he'll have Mayweather next year. I hope.

Pacman should pickup the slack and fight Marquez (I bet he wouldn't mind) and then fight Mayweather. Let's not kid ourselves, in the big scheme of things, its the fight for the #1 P4P spot; Pac--current #1, Marquez--#2 and contraversially #1, Mayweather--WAS #1. Reason for "WAS," In his own words, he wants to RECLAIM what is rightfully his and won't accept to be labeled FORMER P4P King but uses the word RECLAIM, how can he RECLAIM something he never lost???

This is so funny. Rib injury? Floyd is so full of excuses these days. Floyd you might as well retire. Again. I Watched the Cotto fight yesterday. I realized how slow Cotto is. He would not last 8 rounds with Pacquiao.

I don't buy it. He got cold feet or is up to something. Shoulda stayed retired, he's gonna get beat if he faces Paq, Mosely, or Cotto. Marquez is a little too small I think. Even if he stays undefeated he's boring to watch and has hardly any power. ZZZZZZ.

TO DM,,,, the cotto and pac fight might never happen. cotto is to big for pac... i know you think pac is indistructable right now.. but pack has never been hit really good.. and cotto would def hurt manny pac.. cotto has been the slower fighter in most of his fights.... mosley was 100 times faster than cotto but cotto is an excellent boxer... the fastest doesent always win.... cotto would tag manny and hurt him like he has never been hurt before... manny is not even in cottos wieght class... again cotto is way to big for manny...

Delahoya is too big for Manny, Hatton is too big for Manny, and now, Cotto is too big for Manny.
We all heard all this before haven't we? And when Manny wins, and I guarantee you he will win, People like you will say, " Oh Cotto was weight drained, blah, blah, blah " and continue to discredit Manny.
Cotto is a heck of a fighter no doubt, but he is not in Pacquiao's level. As for the Marquez fight, Manny was way different then compared to now. Marquez lost and kissed the canvass 4 times to a one-handed fighter who has no defense. Pacquiao now is a complete fighter. His right hand is just as dangerous as his left. Better footwork, better head movement, better timing, better all around. If they were to fight again, Pacquiao would put an end to JMM's career.

The fight got postponed due to very low ticket sales. With a 16,000 seating capacity, they haven't sold 10% yet. So much for calling himself the "cash cow".
Mayweather should have heeded to Al Haymons' advise and made this fight HBO Championship Boxing instead of PPV.
If PBF wasn't a the CASH COWard, he should have waited and decide to fight Pacquiao. This would have been an epic fight. Mayweather makes... MADE (emphasis on the past) good PPV only because of his opponents.

Hope Mayweather gets okay, those training injuries can be bad. At least this will give him more time to get himself in better shape mentally. Pac-Man and Cotto will be an interesting fight, Cotto better train extra hard. My dream fight is one between Mosley asnd Mayweather, now that would be one for the books.
