Over the course of his boxing career, Floyd Mayweather has probably spent as much time working on his trash talk as he has hitting the speed bag. But as Mayweather prepares to step into the ring with Juan Manuel Marquez -- his first fight in almost two years -- he has a new forum for talking trash: Twitter.Yes, Mayweather is the latest in a long, long line of athletes to get on Twitter, and he'll be using it to hype his September 19 pay-per-view fight.
Here's his first 140-character salvo:
Marquez says hes goin after my ribs but theres no weakness in MONEY MAY. Only ribs he'll b diggin n2 will b at Outback after I take him downNot a bad first effort as far as trash talk goes, but I hope he'll also use Twitter to provide us with some real insight, such as what he's working on with his sparring partners and what he thinks about his uncle and trainer Roger Mayweather getting into trouble with the law. That's the kind of thing that builds up a Twitter following.
If you follow boxing and you're on Twitter, follow my boxing Twitter updates.

I know many might not like Money May! but Lets face it, everybody that has brought it to him has got dealt with! And Why would he split money with someone who doesnt generate the same income, champion or not! Pac-man has generated half the revenue on ppv that money may had on just two fights. I doubt he his scared, remember Arturio Gatti(R.I.P) was suppose to thrash him! I think that 37:1 punch/ratio in that round is still a record! but bring it on I know who my MONEY is going on! No pun intended!

Speaking of money, Pacquiao is currently no. 6 in the Forbes money list. Top contenders like Shane Mosley would give up everything, begging, just to get a fight with Pacquiao. Pacquiao is the most wanted man on the planet. In other news, the ticket sales for the Mayweather-Marquez fight " sucked ! ". That should tell you something.

ur right about that. gayweather made more money against Dela Hoya and Hatton, but not because of Gayweather fans, he has a handful. But it's because Oscar and Ricky has more fans than Floyd. Floyd Mayweather "The Greatest Ducker of all time"

@Sky's the limit! so i guess all these fans just magically disappeared when pacquioa fought hatton and DLH right??? its also funny how ppl ignore how pacquioa dodged mosely who was willing to sacrifice every advantage to fight a seemingly vulnerable cotto...

Pacquiao didn't dodge Mosley. He simply picked Cotto who as far as I know was option A. Mosley was option B. Had Cotto lost that fight to Clottey, Manny would have taken Mosleys offer.
If Manny had chosen Mosley right from the beginning, any Hardcore boxing fan could make a case that Manny is ducking Cotto. So which one is it?
Manny isn't afraid of anyone. Keep that in mind. And by the way, as for those Hatton/De Lahoya fans, probably joining the Pacquiao Bandwagon.

I personally can't see it dodging when a guy was dismantled by margarito(although he was most likely cheating in that fight) and then arguably lost but managed to pull a split decision to a guy who's not even on the upper part of the pound for pound list to fight a guy who looked masterful against margarito... shane would've most likely beat a cheating margarito because he had the skill to beat up on him without taking any flush punches. and if cotto was option A then that's only because Arum wanted all the money in house not because it was the best fight...

You do realize that the Pacquiao camp has been calling out the ducker of all duckers Floyd Mayweather? And that Manny has not ruled out a possible third match with Marquez. And that the only reason why Mosley needed this fight badly is because of one thing and one thing only, money. Pacquiao is the big money fight out there. Mosley at his age, is on his way out. Hmmm, I remember a time when Pacquiao haters keep bashing him for picking aging over the hill fighters and ignoring the younger fighters out there. What happened to those people? Cotto is like a decade younger than Mosley by the way. And more importantly, Cotto has defeated Mosley. One last thing, I like the fact that Oscar and his Promotions won't get money from Pacquiao's next fight, kudos to Arum. He's a smart businessman.

yeah Arum's a smart buisnessman i'm just saying that he is just as responsible for mayweather-cotto not happening if not more and mayweather is the bigger ppv draw which should give him a majority share of the purse just like DLH got when fighting mayweather who was P4P, everybody chooses their fights especially when they're at the top

If i was mayweather i wouldn't go for 50/50 given the circumstances and I wouldn't be the least surprised if mayweather-marquez outsells in ppv numbers the cotto-pacqioa fight given mayweather's new fans in europe and in the US despite all the haters and an entire country of die-hard fight fans behind him. any real fight fan will order that fight. i'll be watching both fights. from wat i understand the bigger draw gets the bigger purse and with manny fighting the same ppl and making far less money floyd still remains the bigger draw despite a 18 month break

Arum's 50/50 offer to Mayweather is ridiculous. Pacquiao deserves more than that. I think that offer was just a test to see how Mayweather would react. They should have taken it as a fair offer, if not, it's just another excuse not to fight Pacquiao.

All you Mayweather fans, yeah so he draws the money. Bottomline is he fought a washed up Oscar and most of his fights have been overmatched by his speed. Stop bringing up mannys fight with Marquez, it was 5 years ago. Manny will DESTROY Mayweather. He is fast and Mayweather's chin has never been tested and Mannys has. He is a stronger puncher than Mayweather and has heart. Mayweather is a great fighter but he will duck Manny because he knows he will lose. His big mouth will finally catch up to him if he even has the guts to fight Manny. Manny wins TKO.
