When it comes to hyping pay-per-view fights, the gold standard has been set by HBO with its 24/7 series, which chronicles the lives of the boxers, both in and out of the gym, in the weeks leading up to their big fights. As HBO prepares for its September 19 pay-per-view fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Juan Manuel Marquez, the 24/7 series is back, and this time the first episode is being made available, in full, online.
Video of Mayweather/Marquez 24/7: Episode 1 is below (NSFW, some offensive language is used.)
The show, as always, takes fans inside the fighters' gyms and homes, but this episode is particularly noteworthy because it also deals candidly with the controversies surrounding Mayweather's camp: Police are investigating whether someone driving Mayweather's Rolls Royce was involved in a shooting (Mayweather himself is not a suspect) and a female boxer has pressed assault charges against Mayweather's uncle and trainer, Roger Mayweather.
Roger Mayweather's statements about the alleged assault are sure to raise eyebrows.
"I never hit her," Roger Mayweather says. "I told you what I did. When she hit me aside the head with a lamp, I grabbed her by the throat and I told her, 'If you ever pick something and hit me aside the head, I'll beat you up.' That's all I said. I never hit her. She's a woman. I could hit her, but I didn't."
The question of whether Roger is a distraction to Floyd is sure to be explored in Part 2 of the four-part series, which will air Saturday on HBO.

Whoever wins, it's going to be a real fight. Not like the BS shows that Muhammad Ali put on. That jerk was a joke. This kinda has the sounds of Rocky to it.

In 24/7, there's Marquez whining about the Manny Pacquiao fight again. He says he's at peace with that yet he has not stop talking about that ever since. In boxing, there are three types of people, Winners, Losers and Whiners. Marquez is neither a winner or a loser. He needs to win this fight against Mayweather, if not, he's career is over.

Ali was the greatest fighter of all time. I don,t understand how anyone can say different. There are some who would have gave him he.. but not many. George foreman was the toughest fighter around, nobody could whup him, but Ali did.
