Mayweather/Marquez 24/7: Episode 1

When it comes to hyping pay-per-view fights, the gold standard has been set by HBO with its 24/7 series, which chronicles the lives of the boxers, both in and out of the gym, in the weeks leading up to their big fights.

As HBO prepares for its September 19 pay-per-view fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Juan Manuel Marquez, the 24/7 series is back, and this time the first episode is being made available, in full, online.

The show, as always, takes fans inside the fighters' gyms and homes, but this episode is particularly noteworthy because it also deals candidly with the controversies surrounding Mayweather's camp: Police are investigating whether someone driving Mayweather's Rolls Royce was involved in a shooting (Mayweather himself is not a suspect) and a female boxer has pressed assault charges against Mayweather's uncle and trainer, Roger Mayweather.

Roger Mayweather's statements about the alleged assault are sure to raise eyebrows.

"I never hit her," Roger Mayweather says. "I told you what I did. When she hit me aside the head with a lamp, I grabbed her by the throat and I told her, 'If you ever pick something and hit me aside the head, I'll beat you up.' That's all I said. I never hit her. She's a woman. I could hit her, but I didn't."

The question of whether Roger is a distraction to Floyd is sure to be explored in Part 2 of the four-part series, which will air Saturday on HBO.
