Floyd Mayweather: 'Bob Arum Is a Very Old, Grumpy Man'

Boxing promoter Bob Arum scoffed at Floyd Mayweather Jr in an interview with FanHouse's Ariel Helwani last week, saying, "He's just a problem and a head case." In a chat with FanHouse this week, Mayweather claimed he hadn't heard those comments -- and then proceeded to respond to them anyway.

Mayweather was asked by a FanHouse reader about the comments, and he blasted Arum as a bad businessman.

"I haven't heard what Bob Arum said but the bottom line is that Bob Arum is a very old, grumpy man, and he is just mad because he got out-smarted by my team," Mayweather said. "It's as simple as that. Beyond that I don't get caught up in what people say about me. He's mad becuse he got outsmarted. That's the bottom line."

When Mayweather says he and his team outsmarted Arum, he's suggesting that his fight with Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday night will be more lucrative than the Arum-promoted fight between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto in November. Whether that's true or not, though, it will be bad for boxing if Mayweather and Arum can't put their feud behind them. The fight everyone wants to see is Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, and that fight can only happen if Mayweather and Arum make peace.
