Aging former titlist Israel Vazquez overcame a 19-month layoff for a ninth-round knockout over Colombia's Angel Antonio Priolo at the Nokia Theater on Saturday night in Los Angeles.Vazquez, who rose to 44-4 with his 32nd career knockout, dropped Priolo to 30-8 with 20 knockouts.
Contested at featherweight (126 pounds), the matchup marked Vazquez's return bout.
The former WBC super bantamweight (122) champion completed a classic, three-fight round-robin with Mexico City's Rafael Marquez before his absence.
Vazquez, 31, lost to Marquez by a seventh-round knockout before earning successive victories by sixth-round stoppage and decision.
But in their last match, in March 2008, Vazquez suffered a detached retina that required three operations to repair.
Born in Mexico City, Vazquez now lives in California.
