Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield shook hands on The Oprah Winfrey Show Friday, with Holyfield saying he has forgiven Tyson for biting him in their heavyweight title fight in 1997.
"The most important thing is to forgive, and I forgave him," Holyfield said. "It wasn't really as bad as they made it out to be. Things happen for a reason, but it's how you handle it."
Said Tyson to Holyfield, "I just want you to know it's been a pleasure passing through life, being acquainted with you."
Holyfield and Tyson reflected on having known each other as teenagers, and having had a rivalry when both were competing to make the 1984 Olympic boxing team. Holyfield said of the bizarre fight with Tyson, which ended in Holyfield winning by disqualification, "It's just a part of life. ... Everybody goes through something."
Asked by Winfrey whether the bite hurt, Holyfield said, "Just a little bit."

Evander always head butted! and one look at that big ass head will tell you it's more dangerous than some peoples kick.

This shows both men have big hearts. Holyfield for accepting Mikes apology, and Mike for offering his apology. I'm glad to see it happen. Evander hasn't been down the road per say Mike has been. A road to destruction, but it's good to see mike has turned around and headed back to the road he knows is the better to walk. I wish Mike luck in continuing on his path. With all the bad things people say about him, "which he brought on himself" it makes it harder. It takes heart, and integrity to admit your problems and short comings, "especially to the world and in the spotlight" then turn yourself around to become a better person. Also Evander shows great integrity in extending his hand, and heart to help Mike along in his stuggle's.

A fallen man who finds grace and reaches out. A champion who hands out forgiveness and heals. We could all learn something from these two.

Tyson is a man of proven violence, the other used his fair share of it in the ring. Who really cares about them now? Winfrey is proving her show is going down the pan when she has to put acts like this on it!
HolyField served it up to Tyson like it needed to get done. Tyson famous for all the illegal elbows, head butts, biting ears...got man-handled by the better Holfield. If you study the tape, its obvious that Mike was trying to get out of the fight before he got really whupped! He left his mouthpiece behind beginning that round so that he didnt have to spit it out later & look like a wuss. He would rather give the impression that he's crazy, rather than just plain ol' chicken! Tyson has never come from behind in a fight and win! The true measure of a champion is how they respond when knocked down or behind in a fight. Holyfield's entire career is kicking butt as an underdog. he was the most dangerous fighter when he was hurt.
