After 34 Bouts, Cintron Fights For First Time In Native Puerto Rico

Former IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron will face Juliano Ramos on Saturday night in a junior middleweight bout in Roberto Clemente Stadium in Carolina, P.R.

Now a resident of Houston, the 30-year-old Cintron (31-2-1, 27 KOs) returns to the city of his birth to face Ramos (15-2, 12 KOs), a Brazilian who has not fought since losing by sixth-round stoppage to Mike Jones in August 2008.

It will be Cintron's first fight on his native soil.

After losing his IBF 147-pound title to Antonio Margarito by sixth-round knockout in April, 2008 -- his second KO loss to the former world champion from Mexico -- Cintron has fought twice as a junior middleweight (154).

Cintron battled Sergio Martinez to a draw in February, and then vanquished previously unbeaten Alfredo Angulo in May over consecutive 12-round fights.

Cintron is returning to welterweight against Ramos in an effort to attract a lucrative payday in a class that includes Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Andre Berto and Margarito.
