LAS VEGAS -- After playing chin music with WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto on Saturday night at the MGM Grand, a confident Manny Pacquiao plans to sing some music at the nearby Mandalay Hotel.Considered boxing's No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Pacquiao plans to perform in a post-fight concert Saturday night with his MP Band.
Pacquiao has already had two albums go platinum in the Philippines.
Nicknamed "The Pac-Man," Pacquiao and his MP Band played a similar gig at The Beach at Mandalay Bay following his two-round knockout victory that dethroned junior welterweight champion Ricky Hatton in May.

Manny Pacquiao may be an excellent boxer, and in fact is one of the best of his generation. However, I would not say a win over a fighter that has no punch named Ricky Hatton and an over the hill boxer in Oscar De Lahaoya has proven he is the Best Pound for Pound boxer of his generation. He may very well defeat Miguel Cotto, a tough cookie, but I do not believe the victory will come as easy as it did with the two fighters mentioned. Pacquiao, or as he is better known "Pac-Man" is like that red monster who is very fast in the game "Ms. Pacman" and comes after you exceedingly fast and nails most players (or eats them according to the game). That is because of the tremendous speed of "Red" and it's tricky too. However "Red" is often defeated by the best Pacman players because they are more Complete in their knowledge and abilities. They are all around complete, fast and quick combination players-as in a "Complete Boxer" and not "One Dimensional" relying only on superior speed. What I am leading to is the most complete boxer of this generation and that boxer's name is Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Much like Ray Leonard of his generation, he is a complete boxer with more skills that just speed and that is why Leonard was able to defeat the "Hit Man" Thomas Hearns and later Roberta Duran (The Hagler fight was an abberation and I won't go into that as it was a split decision that I think could have gone either way), and after that the Lightheavy Champion Donny LaLonde. Mayweather has those unique qualities in this generation of boxers that Leonard had in his. He is a complete boxer and champion through and through, as opposed to Pacquiao who is a one dimensional boxer and relies almost entirely on his tremedous speed alone to defeat his opponents. Pacquiao will not be able to get way with doing what he has done to other fighters if and when he fights Floyd Mayeather, and the public will be stunned-all except me of course :-)
Aww please...
Trying to bring up Sugar Ray "Coke Nostril" Leonard questionable fights against Duran, the Hitman and that robbery with Haggler...even a bystander moronic to all things boxing, knows Haggler was robbed! Leonard's constant running coupled with ridiculous show boating and friends in the judges panels and networks let him "Win" many bogus decisions...period.
Mayweather is a chump who has never been tested, his recent fights ranking as some of the most boring in the sport. Take the pitter pat with Delahoya...an embarrassment to the sport and nothing more than a WWF rehearsal for a huge payday.
Pac man is better than all these chumps combined and I don't really even like the guy. Get real.
amcied1, i don't know what planet you're from but this ain't the old pacman game that you used to play. this is a real fight. however, your boy mayweather has been docking pacquiao for a long time now. he's not quite sure what he's gonna get from pacquiao so he's trying to buy some more time to figure him out. he doesn't call him out like what he usually does with other opponents. maybe he's afraid to stick his foot on his mouth. relax and get a good seat, and don't blink coz it will be over quick.
if mayweather is so complete why is he ducking pac-man
Um, What part of SIX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN SIX DIFFERENT WEIGHT CLASSES DONT YOU UNDERSTAND! If that doesnt make you the best P4P in the world, what does?
pacman can sing and dance all he wants, cotto is gonna destroy him on fight nite!
To all non-filipinos out there, I am a big Pacquiao fan- of boxing, his humanitarian acts, and generosity. Aside from those things, I will never be his fan- for singing (almost 80% of the people in the Philippines laughs at his back whenever he sings, trust me), his ambition in politics (duh? his name and reputation, not to mention his principles, will be ruined there), acting (well he can act, only for comedy, because, well.. he's funny.. or he is someone to laugh about), and the way he sometimes spends money (he spent $800,000 for tickets in his fight against Hatton- for the congressmen! that amount is a very very big help for the people back in the Phils.!). He only belongs to boxing, and I'm 100% sure Filipinos all over the world can attest to that.
It is entirely possible that Cotto can defeat Manny Pacquiao. Cotto is a PFP contender to be sure. Pacquiao is not doing himself any favors with the distraction of playing in his band on the eve of his big fight. This kind of thing was unheard of back in the days when boxers were 100% committed to their sport. In fact, Pacquiao was doing this kind of nonsense playing pool mostly and letting pool interfere with his fights when he fought in the past. Let's not forget also that the best Manny Pacquiao could get from Marquez (a smaller fighter than Cotto) was a draw and he was defeated a few years ago against Erik Morales. Yes, Cotto could concievabally beat Pacquiao, especially now since Pacquiao seems to have gone back to his old ways of distracting himself before a big fight. Which would then pave the way for Mayweather vs Cotto. We'll see in a few days.
Correction: I had stated that Pacquiao was going to play with his band on the eve of the fight. After re-reading I saw it would be after he fight. However, I maintain that the distractions have increased for Pacquiao and that alone has been his weakness in the past in his otherwise stellar career. I still give the edge to Pacquiao but I sincerely doubt that he will defeat Mayweather, for the reasons I stated in my earlier post. By the way, I like Manny and am just trying to be as objective as I can be in my anlaysis and in fact if he does beat Cotto and then Mayweather, I will be the first to admit I was wrong and automatically put Manny Pacquiao as PFP the greatest..if ge can beat Shame Mosley too :-)
Pacman will prove to be too quick for Cotto , both hand and foot speed will be too much for the Welterweight Champ.
Amcled , Manny is one dimensional? Get real , he is a boxer/puncher that can lead , counter , or brawl. Good power in both hands , and a southpaw. Hits hard from many different angles and gets inside and out quicker than anyone Cotto has ever faced. Cotto will get tko'ed , either by cuts or knockdowns IMO.
Mayweather is on the same level as Ray Leonard?? HAHAHA Not on his best day could he beat Ray Leonard , prime vs prime.
Funniest thing I read on this board was Amcled comparing Mayweather to Sugar Ray Leonard. Not on his best day could Mayweather beat Ray , prime vs prime.
Lighten up and take a deep breath yamobthere07 LOL. In my view, and it's only my opinion from My perspective. No, Manny is Not a "complete" fighter yet, but close. Mayweather is absolutely a complete fighter and has suprior skills-plus the speed and quickness to boot, and as to my so called comparison of Leonard and Mayweather-I Never compare contemporaries, although it's fun to do sometimes.
I merely said and here is my exact quote-"What I am leading to is the most complete boxer of this generation and that boxer's name is Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Much like Ray Leonard of his generation"-I never compard the two as to facing off prime or anything of that sort. Every generation has their best and Mayweather in my view is the best of this generation of fighters.
I stand by what I wrote until proven otherwise. in my opinion, and it is only that, the most complete boxer of this generation is Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Much like Ray Leonard was of his generation. Now, get a beer and relax lol.
Fact: Manny did lose a decision to Morales in 2005 , then KO'ed him twice in rematches.
Fact: Manny did have a draw with Marquez , then BEAT him in the Rematch
Guess those facts were forgotten.
Take a look at the fighters Manny has beaten since 05, heres a few names. Marquez , Morales , Barrera , Diaz ,Solis , DeLa Hoya , Hatton.
Seems like he has the Latino fighters figured huh??!! Now Cotto , another Latino fighter , hmmmmm. PACMAN TKO's Cotto round 8 or 9. Then everyone head over to his concert!!!! hahahahahh
Barrera, Morales, Hoya were past their prime. WAY past their prime. Marquez, a draw and a decision win. That decision win was contreversial at best. Many sports writers can go either way on that decision, but Pac got the decisions. Can't go back.
Marquez was dominated by a bigger fighter who didn't even respect the contract by being 2 pounds over weight. Do you know how much those two pounds can affect a fighter?
I worry about Pac, though I respect him as a fighter, but going up in weight to take these guys on, I find it crazy. They are bigger than he ever fought. He's a great fighter, but I also don't see Pac/Mayw happening. The weight is just too big a difference.
This is yet another PPV rip-off. They did it well with Mayweather-Marquez. Hyped the fight, made it look like it would be close but you never saw them together until the fight-in the ring where you then realized that Floyd was much bigger and Juan couldn't hurt him. Juan is the best in his weight class and should have stayed there. Such is the case here. You will see the difference in size on Saturday. Manny is great, I love him, a humble-class act but I don't think he can hurt Cotto and Cotto CAN hurt him. So its fairly achademic, Manny runs for 12 rounds, Cotto out points him ......possibly in one of those exchanges where Manny thinks he has "his man in trouble" and begins wrecklessly winging punches .....Miguel gets the looping left in-GOOD NIGHT !!!
DO YOU HONESTLY THINK MANNY WON THE MARQUEZ FIGHT #2 ? ARE YOU SERIOUS ???
I think Manny won the first Marquez fight; they only gave a draw to Marquez becasue he wouldn't quit, but Manny beat the crap out of him. I saw both, 2nd could have been a draw, but not the first. And I was not a Manny fan.
By the way Duran beat Leonard the first time they fought beat him up bad and Leonard wanted to retire The second fight Leonard won only because Duran was sick Leonard refused to ever fight Duran again Check your history Get your facts right Adios
Duran: NO MAS , NO MAS. HAHAHA Seems like the only quitter was Roberto!
Stop with the " I WAS SICK " nonsense , he was sick of being made to look the fool , FACT.
C'mon yamobthere07 that's BS and you know it. Duran foight a great strategical and tactiful fight against Leonard in Canada. The rematch was Duran's own fault..balooning to nearly 200 pounds and dropping down that fast. He walked away because Leonard was getting off first and then taunting him by sticking his tongue at him and stuff like that-not exactly the way a Champion or challenger fighting to get his title back should act-classless. Later they would face off again and Duran gave a good accounting and redeeming himself of himself losing a decision to the younger Leonard.
Duran, in my view, was the greatest Lightweight Champion of all time and overall one of the greatest boxers that ever laced the gloves. "Manos de Piedra" won championships from Lightweight to Middleweight shocking Iran Barkley with a knockdown and taking the big man's tile away when many had written Duran off.
