Along with Floyd Mayweather's Sept. 19, unanimous decision victory over Juan Manuel Marquez, which resulted in 1.05 million buys, this year represents the first time HBO pay per view has ever recorded back-to-back fights exceeding a million buys, Taffet indicated in Friday's e-mail.Pacquiao-Cotto also marks the first time since 1999 that two, pay per view boxing events have totaled more than a million purchases, joining Felix Trinidad's controversial decision over Oscar De La Hoya, and, Lennox Lewis' disputed draw with Evander Holyfield.
The 1.25 figure represents the highest performing boxing pay-per-view event in 2009, and, according to Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, "The biggest event of the year for pay per view from the standpoint of revenue generated."
Pacquiao-Cotto produced $70 million in pay-per-view revenue, a figure that includes 650,000 purchases from cable homes, another 600,000 from satellite and telephone company services, and a record 110,000 from Cotto's native Puerto Rico alone.
"I expect those [Pacquiao-Cotto] numbers to surpass 1.25. I really think that we're going to get over 1.3 when we get the final figures," said Arum. "This is a projection that will only go up."
Pacquiao has surpassed the one million mark in pay per view for the second time, joining his knockout of De La Hoya, which also registered 1.25 in December of 2008. Pacquiao's second-round stoppage of Ricky Hatton in May drew 830,000 buys, according to Taffet.

Mayweather's split-decision victory over De La Hoya in May of 2007 sold a record 2.4 million, making Mayweather (40-0, 25 knockouts) against Pacquiao (50-3-2, 37 KOs) the obvious choice for the next megafight.
Arum said that he expects to begin negotiating as early as next week with Golden Boy Promotions' Richard Schaefer, who will be action on Mayweather's behalf.
"I think that they've indicated that that's who they want to negotiate with me," said Arum. "And, if that, in fact, turns out to be the case, then the best we have of getting the deal done is if Richard Schaefer's on the other side."
Pacquiao-Cotto will be replayed on HBO on Saturday night at 10 p.m., with subsequent replays scheduled for Nov. 22 at 10 a.m., and, Nov. 23 at 11:40 p.m. The fight will also be rebroadcast on HBO 2 on Nov. 22 at 2:30 p.m., and, Nov. 24, at 11:55 p.m.
